Is it okay to have the transmission of my bmw e46 flushed at service centers like Jiffy lube and Mr.Tire?
I just got a 2000 323i, and it has 83K miles on it. Carfax report shows it hasn't been flushed ever. I have seen DIYs on several forums but I'm really afraid of laying a finger on my transmission because i might ruin it. Does Jiffy lube and other service centers have the tools and technical know-how to flush BMWs properly? I don't want to go to the stealership and give them my arm and my leg for a flush.|||No. If it has never been flushed, don't start now. Flushing a transmission that hasn't been kept "clean" regularly by fluid changes or flushed can get particles moved to tiny orifices that they shouldn't be in. Have the fluid and filter (if equipped) changed, and change the fluid only again in 3-5000 miles. If the fluid that comes out then looks clean, start changing it per manufacturer's recommendations.|||I wouldn't. I disagree that you can't have it changed, just don't take it to Jiffy Lube. Take the car to an independent mechanic that specializes in BMW repair (as opposed to the dealership). They will have the correct BMW transmission fluid for your car rather than something generic.|||no! that long leave it alone.if so thenthe dealer ship is the only way.i have freinds that have 7 series bmw's and have 300'000 miles on them and never been done. also if it's like the 7 series they are a sealed trans.that means no adding oil or changeing it.unless major repairs are done and seals broken.leave it alone!
